I created this large serving tray for a client made from a plate that had sentimental value because it was a gift from a special friend. The plate had been broken during the move to their new home.
I needed to work with what was left of the plate and I created a pattern around the centerpiece to mirror what was depicted on the plate's design.
This shower stall was completely tiled and grouted in outdated colors and needed a pick-me-up. My client asked me to re-grout the surrounding tiles and create an entirely new floor for the tub from some prized dishes she owned.
Here is the resulting tub floor and PART of the re-grouting of the stall....the rest of the tile surround, the floor of the bathroom, and the vanity were also re-grouted (not shown).
This Portugese compass rose mosaic design was designed & created for clients in West Los Angeles. It was installed into the center of their driveway...and because of their aeronautical background, a perfect compass setting had to be assured using a magnetic compass and a "true" line, calculating the magnetic differences. The mosaic itself was created using a historic Portugese design with a Fleur d'Lis at North and a Maltese cross at East. We added details from the clients' familial background to the other two points. A Nordic/Viking ship at the South point and a Trefoil at the West point.
This tile mural installation was created for Motorsport Scooters in San Diego, CA. Amber created the durable and fun mosaic mural centerpiece using the Motorsport logo - then surrounded it with multi-hued larger floor tiles for stability and edged that with more mosaic tiles. Durability is the key word for this entryway and mosaics offer just that...every day scooters are rolled in and out of these entryway doors!
This Meditation Snail was created for a San Diego County couple to be placed in their garden, which is being landscaped with fun and playful objects for their grandchildren. Installed in their yard, the Meditation Snail is for the children to walk around while seeing and touching the many various forms of tile, glass, and stones as they pass through the spirals. On the perimeter of the snail each grandchild is represented by name. Among the outer stones: there is a playful scene with a monkey in a tree, several sea creatures, jungle birds and animals, and many 3-dimensional objects to stimulate the tactile wonderment of children!
This fantastic vintage, mosaic surfboard was commissioned in December, 2003. Because it had a beautiful wood line down the center and was close to 7 foot in length, I discussed leaving the sides of the board uncovered. This way the beauty of the board could be appreciated along with the artwork that was incorporated into it. It was difficult to photograph this piece because the mirror, glass, and colors in each section shone differently in the angles of the sunlight. However, as a description, the sunrise's reflection in the ocean is done in silvered mirror, light blue mirror, and dark blue mirror. The sun's body is in four different yellow and orange stained glass tiles. The sun's rays are in golden mirror and then fade to silvered mirror. The sunrise is surrounded by glass gems of various colors. Thousands of individual pieces of glass and mirror were used to complete this commission.
The removeable top for this antique sideboard was commissioned mid-2003. This piece tells the story of the client who commissioned the work. The strata show travels made during her lifetime, beloved places in the world she had visited, and her familial roots deep in Irish history. And, through rivers of color, the work shows the new paths of her future travels.
This fun "stream" walkway was created to test the durability of resin casts set within ceramic tiles. It also connects to the front room of the home, where the stream ends in a mosaic pond. The entire floor is done in a style which evokes old-world, well-traveled tiled floors. With deep terra cotta grouting and hints of handmade tiles and colorful bright tiles, this floor wears its heavy traffic beautifully.
Great Curves - A Plus Size Haven - is celebrating their grand opening soon in a fantastic new location! The new shop is located at 2702 Lytton in the Point Loma/Sports Arena area! Lisa Snook, the owner, commissioned a buxom woman in lingerie to be painted on the outside of her new Lingerie Room. Here are a few photos as construction and decorating were still being completed.
